Cristina had been hiding in her apartment again -- it was what she did these days -- and planned to sleep way in were it not for her phone ringing incessantly in the morning.
"What."
"Cristina!"
She sat up sharply. "Mere?! Oh my god, where are you? Where have you been? Everyone's worr --"
"I'm in Baltimore. I'm here to get you."
"You're here to -- Mere, you can't come get me. I'm on a magic island, remember? I'm stuck."
"Just cross the bridge to Baltimore."
"Do you think I haven't tried that? What part of 'magic island' aren't you clear on?"
"I think you haven't tried it when someone's on the other end waiting for you."
"What? Why would that make a difference?"
"What part of 'magic island' aren't you clear on? I'm on the end of the causeway. I'm your person. And I need you in this world, not kidnapped in some crazy purgatory."
"This might not work."
"It definitely won't if you don't try."
Cristina couldn't argue with that. She got dressed quickly, her phone still pressed to her ear the whole time so she could interrogate Meredith about everything that had happened to her since Derek's death. She didn't pack much, just what she'd had with her when she arrived on Fandom the first day. If this worked, she didn't want any reminders of this damned place.
And then she was on the causeway, staring down the pavement and trying to convince herself to take the first steps.
"Alright," she said. "I'm coming."
"I'm here."
And she was. About halfway across the causeway, Cristina spotted her, standing with Zola and Bailey at her sides, her stomach round as a beach ball.
"You're here!"
"I am."
"You're pregnant!"
Meredith hung up her phone, smiling. "I am."
And then they were hugging and laughing, and Cristina was grabbing up her goddaughter for a big hug too, not even noticing when the causeway faded away behind her.
She was home.
[NFI. And that's it, Cristina's last post! She was terribly fun when I had the brain for her, but it's time she get to do what she actually wants to. Cheers, all!]
